Si tratta di un cimitero gestito da un ente tedesco che viene finanziato in parte anche dalle donazioni dei visitatori. Il posto è sicuramente ben curato; è presente all’ingresso una bellissima targa bronzea dove risulta raffigurata la geografia del centro Italia: stiamo parlando dei momenti immediatamente successivi allo sbarco delle truppe alleate ad Anzio, nel corso della seconda guerra mondiale. La sede in cui è stato realizzato questo cimitero fu teatro di aspri combattimenti fra le truppe dell’Asse e gli Alleati. Questo terreno pianeggiante è stato di fatto donato dal governo italiano all’ente di cui sopra, agli inizi del secondo dopo guerra.
Beautiful place to visit, especially for history lovers. Admission is free. It is a cemetery managed by a German institution which is also partly financed by donations from visitors. The place is certainly well looked after; At the entrance there is a beautiful bronze plaque depicting the geography of central Italy: we are talking about the moments immediately following the landing of the allied troops in Anzio, during the Second World War. The site where this cemetery was built was the scene of fierce fighting between the Axis troops and the Allies. This flat land was in fact donated by the Italian government to the aforementioned institution, at the beginning of the second post-war period.
