★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Situato nel cuore delle colline attorno a Castiglione delle Stiviere, in una zona già abitata in epoca romana, fu fondato dall'eremita padre Girolamo Redini di Castel Goffredo, istitutore della Congregazione degli Eremiti di Santa Maria in Gonzaga ed eretto presso i ruderi della villa romana.
Fu rimaneggiato nei primi anni del Cinquecento dal marchese Luigi Gonzaga, nonno di San Luigi, che lo donò ai Frati Minori di San Francesco, detti "Zoccolanti", dopo l'abbandono del convento da parte degli Eremiti di Santa Maria.
Divenne il luogo di villeggiatura preferito dal marchese Ferrante Gonzaga e dalla consorte donna Marta Tana, che qui venne inizialmente sepolta e nel 1804 traslata nel duomo di Castiglione delle Stiviere.
Fra le sue mura nel 1584 vi si ritirò San Luigi Gonzaga in preghiera, dopo i ripetuti scontri con il padre Ferrante per il suo proposito di abbracciare la vita religiosa. La sua cella è stata trasformata in cappella in suo onore.
Sconsacrato nel 1798 subì negli anni seguenti danni molto ingenti che portarono alla demolizione di una parte dell'edificio e della chiesa. L'unica ala che sopravvive oggi, e che è ancora visibile, era unicamente adibita alla famiglia dei Gonzaga.
L'immobile dal 1846 appartiene al Collegio delle Nobili Vergini di Gesù.
 Located in the heart of the hills around Castiglione delle Stiviere, in an area already inhabited in Roman times, it was founded by the hermit father Girolamo Redini of Castel Goffredo, founder of the Congregation of the Hermits of Santa Maria in Gonzaga and erected near the ruins of the Roman villa .
It was remodeled in the early sixteenth century by the marquis Luigi Gonzaga, grandfather of San Luigi, who donated it to the Friars Minor of San Francesco, called "Zoccolanti", after the Hermits of Santa Maria left the convent.
It became the favorite holiday resort of the Marquis Ferrante Gonzaga and his wife Marta Tana, who was initially buried here and moved to the cathedral of Castiglione delle Stiviere in 1804.
Within its walls in 1584 San Luigi Gonzaga retired there in prayer, after repeated clashes with his father Ferrante for his purpose of embracing religious life. His cell was transformed into a chapel in his honor.
Deconsecrated in 1798, it suffered very serious damage in the following years which led to the demolition of part of the building and the church. The only wing that survives today, and which is still visible, was only used by the Gonzaga family.
The property since 1846 belongs to the College of the Noble Virgins of Jesus.
