★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Beautiful and picturesque church. Walking from Bacino Orseolo over the Tron Bridge and Calle Sangallo we come to the beautiful Chiesa San Gallo. Now it is a completely quiet part of town with a beautiful square where the Banca Nazionale del Lavoro and the Banco di Napoli are located. A first church of San Gallo was founded around 1581 as an oratory of the renovated Orseolo hospice, which was moved to this area from its original location in Piazza San Marco to make way for the Procuratie Nuove. It was enlarged in 1703 by the brothers of the hospice, obtaining from the procurators of San Marco to extend the building on a property of the Basilica San Marco. It is probably the smallest building of its kind in the city, since, according to the provisions of the procurators, the church could not have exceeded nine paces in width and twenty in length, also taking care not to compromise the functioning of the well in front. The façade is almost completely occupied by the portal and the two side windows and ends with a triangular tympanum connected to two pedestals on which statues (never built) were to be placed. Inside there are three altars, the main one is decorated with the painting of the "Christ blessing with Saints Mark and Gall" attributed to Domenico Tintoretto.
