S	Sergio S. on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ La chiesa di S. Rocco ha origini antichissime ed è sorta probabilmente negli anni che corrono dal 1400 al 1450. Fu il vescovo Jacopo Squacquera, di ritorno dal Concilio di Ferrara fra il 1439 e il 1442, che, dopo aver probabilmente assistito al miracolo del Santo in occasione di una epidemia di peste, fece erigere una piccola cappella affidata ad una delle più antiche confraternite della città, che ha dato poi il nome a tutta la zona che circonda la città ad oriente. La trama della muratura dice chiaramente che la prima cappella viene inglobata, innalzandola, da una chiesa più grande che arriva a comprendere le attuali tre absidi probabilmente a metà del 1700. Nei secoli, quindi, il manufatto ha subito continue trasformazioni finche, dopo i danni subiti dal terremoto del 1857, fu riedificata nella forma che oggi appare. Nel 1860 la confraternita prende l’iniziativa di far risorgere la chiesa, più vasta e più bella di prima, e, dopo le radicali trasformazioni apportate, viene riaperta al culto nel 1862, rimanendo unicamente in funzione del culto al Santo, e la congrega assume un preciso impegno di provvedere alla manutenzione della chiesa. I lavori vennero coordinati e organizzati dall'ingegnere Vincenzo Marocco. The church of S. Rocco has very ancient origins and probably arose in the years between 1400 and 1450. It was the bishop Jacopo Squacquera, returning from the Council of Ferrara between 1439 and 1442, who, after having probably witnessed the miracle of the Saint on the occasion of a plague epidemic, he erected a small chapel entrusted to one of the oldest brotherhoods in the city, which then gave its name to the whole area surrounding the city to the east.
