Trinità, a ridosso immediato della cinta muraria, nella seconda metà del XIII secolo, sorge uno dei primi insediamenti francescani avutisi in Basilicata. La data canonica del convento ubicato sul crinale del colle, e nello stesso tempo nel cuore del centro storico, è riportata al 1265, e la data della chiesa di S. Francesco al 1274. L'antico convento del 1200 è quasi totalmente privo di testimonianze storiche e artistiche attuali. Sulla facciata sinistra della chiesa trova posto il portale che si entra nel chiostro cinquecentesco. Esso presenta un porticato a sei arcate che termina con una porta lignea del XVI secolo e da un portale quattrocentesco che dà accesso ai locali interni della sacrestia e del convento nuovo. Internamente la chiesa presenta un impianto, semplice e schematico, tipico delle antiche chiese francescane dei primi tempi con una sola navata e l'Altare. Elementi artistici di rilievo sono un'opera che rappresenta il martirio di San Sebastiano, una tempera su tavola donata alla chiesa e risalente al 1852, che rappresenta la Madonna con il bambino.
