Sebbene vista da fuori possa sembrare semi distrutta non bisogna farsi ingannare perchè gran parte della chiesa è sottoterra. sono presenti le immagini di alcuni santi. La scalinata è abbastanza ripida e bisogna fare molta attenzione mentre si scende. Essendo una chiesa piccola e antichissima è molto rovinata, ma gli affreschi sono ancora abbastanza visibili. Naturalmente non è presente alcun ingresso per la sedia a rotelle, anche perchè non ci sarebbe lo spazio. Small but suggestive church. Although seen from the outside it may seem semi-destroyed, one should not be fooled because much of the church is underground. there are images of some saints. The staircase is quite steep and you have to be very careful while going down. Being a small and very ancient church it is very ruined, but the frescoes are still quite visible. Of course there is no entrance for the wheelchair, also because there would be no space.

Assolutamente da visitare, assieme a tutto il Parco Archeologico. Consiglio fortemente la visita guidata, al fine di apprezzare ciò che si osserva, altrimenti si rischia di non godere appieno di un'esperienza sensazionale. A beautiful plunge into the past, through a fascinating journey that unfolds over almost three millennia. The hypogean church is wonderful. Absolutely to visit, along with the entire Archaeological Park. I strongly recommend the guided tour, in order to appreciate what you observe, otherwise you risk not enjoying a sensational experience to the full.

Meravigliosa la parte ipogea interamente affrescata, molto particolare la cupola a tholos della chiesetta superiore che ricorda il cono dei trulli. Andrebbe maggiormente curato e restaurato Beautiful historical place made of three different environments: a chamber tomb of the II century BC, a Basilian crypt of the VIII century and a church of the XI century. The hypogean part entirely frescoed is marvelous, the tholos dome of the upper church which recalls the trulli cone is very particular. It should be better cared for and restored

Costruita probabilmente nell'XI-XII secolo sopra una cripta ipogea, ha struttura a due campate, con ingresso e volta a cupola la prima, volta a botte la seconda che termina con una piccola abside, rivolta ad est secondo il rito greco, decorata con un affresco di San Pietro Apostolo. Sul lato destro della seconda campata si apre la scala scavata nella roccia che conduce alla sottostante cripta dell'VIII secolo. Il vano rettangolare, diviso in due navate da tre pilastri, presenta diverse nicchie con affreschi di Santi dipinti probabilmente in occasione dei restauri del 1724. Una apertura immette in un altro vano più piccolo, una tomba a camera di età ellenistica (IV-III secolo a.C.) in cui è ancora visibile la decorazione della volta con fasce rosse, riutilizzato come luogo di culto bizantino. It is located in the Archaeological Park of the Messapian Walls, next to the vast necropolis. Probably built in the 11th-12th century over an underground crypt, it has a two-bay structure, the first with an entrance and a domed vault, the second barrel vault that ends with a small apse, facing east according to the Greek rite, decorated with a fresco of St. Peter the Apostle. On the right side of the second bay opens the staircase carved into the rock that leads to the underlying crypt of the eighth century. The rectangular room, divided into two naves by three pillars, has several niches with frescoes of Saints probably painted during the restorations of 1724. An opening leads into another smaller room, a chamber tomb from the Hellenistic period (IV-III century BC) in which the decoration of the vault with red bands is still visible, reused as a Byzantine place of worship.

Una chiesetta bizantina, giusta conclusione di un percorso turistico, con guide accreditate dalla Regione Puglia, che ha inizio, dopo l accoglienza utilissima degli addetti al front office, book office e biglietteria, con la visita alla Fonte Pliniano, e questo luogo ha la sua unicità al mondo, proseguendo per le Mura Messapiche, Necropoli, Porte storiche in pietra facenti parte delle mura, e, a fine giro turistico, con la Chiesa di S. Pietro Mandurino, che ha la sua spettacolaritá storica ed antico rifugio dei monaci basiliani. Ma c è ancora tanto da dire. Andarci per una visita guidata affascina particolarmente. Lo consiglio vivamente! It is a unique place. Scendendo nella parte interrata della chiesetta, è possibile ammirare le bellissime nicchie scavate nella roccia dai basiliani e gli affreschi raffiguranti icone sacre... assolutamente da non perdere!
