The Mother Church of San Nicola in Squinzano, was built in the second half of the 16th century on the remains of a chapel dedicated to San Vito, the old patron saint of the town.
The façade is in Renaissance style characterized by three portals in Lecce stone, with the two lateral ones surmounted by rose windows and, in the central one, it is possible to admire the statue of San Nicola. Of particular beauty is also the 32 meter high bell tower, completed in 1658, in Baroque style.
The interior has a Latin cross with three naves. At the ends of the transept we find the Chapels of the Rosary and the Sacrament. The first houses an eighteenth-century canvas depicting St. Dominic of Guzmàn receiving the rosary from the Virgin and in that of the Sacrament is the canvas, a work by an unknown seventeenth-century artist, representing the Last Supper. It is beautiful and it is interesting to visit it.
