On the top of this imposing staircase is the Church of S. Maria dei Cavalieri Gaudenti. It was built on the remains of a pagan temple in the 12th century. Inside you can admire a painting by Giorgini depicting Santa Caterina della Ruota made in 1850.

È quindi in centro storico, accanto al palazzo appartenuto agli stessi Cavalieri Gaudenti e a quello di Innocenzo III. Nel 1249 è menzionata nei documenti l' Ecclesia Sancta Maria Gaudenti Ferentinatis, andata ad occupare l’area di un antico tempio pagano. Fu eretta su un caratteristico bastione poligonale. Sul pianerottolo della prima rampa di scale si vede una grande stella ottopuntata, attributo di Maria Vergine. L’interno, ad una sola navata coperta a volte, conserva un quadro del Giorgini del 1850 raffigurante Santa Caterina della Ruota.
The Church is majestic, in an elevated position at the end of a staircase that starts from the ancient Consular Road (the Roman Cardo of Ferentino). It is therefore in the historic center, next to the palace that belonged to the same Cavalieri Gaudenti and to that of Innocent III. In 1249 the Ecclesia Sancta Maria Gaudenti Ferentinatis is mentioned in the documents, which went to occupy the area of an ancient pagan temple. It was built on a characteristic polygonal bastion. On the landing of the first flight of stairs you can see a large octo-pointed star, an attribute of the Virgin Mary. The interior, with a single nave covered at times, preserves a painting by Giorgini from 1850 depicting Santa Caterina della Ruota.
