Quando poi ti fermi ad ammirare le tante chiese della città, allora rimani incantato. Come questa perla: la Chiesa di San Giovanni Evangelista. Particolare per la sua pianta ovale e le preziose decorazioni barocche, al suo interno è conservata un'opera risalente al XVII secolo, il "Cristo di Burgos", di provenienza spagnola, che raffigura un Cristo crocifisso, nudo fino al bacino e coperto, fino alle caviglie, da una sorta di gonna bianca chiaroscurata, merlettata, per la qual cosa il dipinto è conosciuto volgarmente anche col nome di "Cristo con la.gonnella". Una raffigurazione assolutamente straordinaria, considerata unica in Italia fino a qualche tempo fa, quando una visitatrice affermò di averne vista una pressappoco identica a Gravedona. Il luogo è bellissimo e suggestivo. Assolutamente da visitare. Getting to Scicli and visiting it is a mystical experience regardless of everything. Particular for its oval plan and precious baroque decorations, inside it is preserved a work dating back to the seventeenth century, the "Christ of Burgos", of Spanish origin, which depicts a crucified Christ, naked up to the pelvis and covered, up to at the ankles, by a sort of chiaroscuro white skirt, laced, for which the painting is also commonly known as "Christ with the skirt". An absolutely extraordinary representation, considered unique in Italy until some time ago, when a visitor claimed to have seen a roughly identical one in Gravedona. The place is beautiful and evocative. A must visit.

Lo spazio interno rapisce per la sua forma centrica, leggermente ovoidale, ornata da fregi e decori che si mescolano tra l'azzurro ed il bianco acceso, in un rincorrersi di ricami che raggiungono il massimo intorno alla volta centrale con medaglione. Predominano i decori azzurri rococò nel vestibolo d'ingresso, mentre la navata centrale è scandita dalle cappelle, ove, nella seconda a sinistra, predomina una tela d'altare seicentesca di un noto pittore spagnolo con un interessante Cristo in croce con gonnella di pizzo bianco, simbolo di devozione insieme all'uovo di struzzo dipinto ai suoi piedi. Una piccola magia da non perdere! Beautiful Baroque testimony in the main street of Scicli, next to the Town Hall. The interior space is captivating for its centric, slightly ovoid shape, adorned with friezes and decorations that mix between blue and bright white, in a succession of embroideries that reach their maximum around the central vault with medallion. The Rococo blue decorations predominate in the entrance vestibule, while the central nave is marked by chapels, where, in the second on the left, a seventeenth-century altar canvas by a well-known Spanish painter with an interesting Christ on the cross with a white lace skirt predominates , a symbol of devotion together with the ostrich egg painted at his feet. A little magic not to be missed!

A	Alessio Guiggi on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Bella chiesa in puro stile barocco siciliano edificata nella seconda metà del Settecento. Leggermente rialzata rispetto al piano stradale, esternamente si presenta con un'elegante scalinata che sale ad una sontuosa facciata, dalla classica forma a torre, aggettante ed incombente sullo spettatore. E' costituita da una parte centrale convessa racchiusa tra coppie di slanciate colonne che canalizzano lo sguardo verso l'alto. Chiudono i fianchi del prospetto due armoniose parti concave. Il secondo ordine è decorato da una raffinata "gelosia" in ferro battuto. Chiudono la piramide tre celle campanarie. L'interno è a pianta ellittica con copertura a cupola pregevolmente affrescata. Un altare custodisce un preziosissimo capolavoro, un dipinto di origine spagnola del 1696 molto particolare ed interessante conosciuto come "il Cristo in gonnella". Si tratta di un'opera d'arte con un'iconografia rarissima in Italia, in cui una veste sacerdotale lunga fino alle caviglie sostituisce il consueto perizoma. Raffigura il "Cristo di Burgos", una scultura lignea del XIV secolo venerata nella chiesa madre di S. Maria di Burgos in Spagna. L'effetto visivo è molto singolare e decisamente atipico. Beautiful church in pure Sicilian Baroque style built in the second half of the eighteenth century. Slightly raised above the street level, externally it has an elegant staircase that goes up to a sumptuous facade, with a classic tower shape, jutting out and looming over the viewer. It consists of a convex central part enclosed between pairs of slender columns that channel the gaze upwards. Two harmonious concave parts close the sides of the façade. The second order is decorated with a refined "jealousy" in wrought iron. Three bell cells close the pyramid. The interior has an elliptical plan with a beautifully frescoed domed roof. An altar holds a very precious masterpiece, a very particular and interesting painting of Spanish origin from 1696 known as "Christ in a skirt". It is a work of art with a very rare iconography in Italy, in which a priestly robe up to the ankles replaces the usual loincloth. It depicts the "Christ of Burgos", a 14th century wooden sculpture venerated in the mother church of St. Maria of Burgos in Spain. The visual effect is very unique and decidedly atypical.
