Situata al centro del Piano San Rocco, dove ci sono le ormai uniche Fosse Granarie, San Domenico è di certo una delle più belle Chiese della città di Cerignola e non solo, nonchè parrocchia molto attiva. Da recenti studi risulta che nel luogo dove oggi sorge la chiesa di San Domenico, vi era una delle "stationes" della Via Appia Traiana che, sempre secondo i recenti studi, si identificherebbe con Via Consolare, proprio difronte la chiesa, dove tra l'altro si trovava il cippo miliare oggi ubicato su Corso Gramsci angolo Via Osteria Ducale. La parrocchia abbracciava allora – oltre alla zona della Cittadella, sorta proprio a ridosso della chiesa – anche i quartieri periferici Pozzocarrozza e Senzacristo, di ultima costruzione, dove si erano stabilite le migliaia di braccianti provenienti soprattutto dal nord barese che, sradicati dal loro contesto socio-culturale, erano maggiormente inclini all’agnosticismo e più sensibili alle idee socialiste. In un contesto di siffatta complessità egli punta ad aggregare la propria comunità di fedeli attorno alla figura di Gesù Cristo eucarestia. Questa prospettiva cristocentrica diventa il fulcro della vita parrocchiale e trova concretizzazione in molteplici inziative pastorali.
