★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Chiesa bella ed imponente, in stile gotico, collocata in una zona di Orvieto non molto frequentata dai turisti: la visita può essere, quindi, insolitamente tranquilla e gratificante.
L'inizio della costruzione risale al 1233 ad opera dell'Ordine dei Domenicani. L'edifico aveva ben tre navate ed il suo prestigio era tale che venne scelta per l'insegnamento della teologia da Tommaso d'Acquino; anche il celebre cardinale Guillaume De Braye vi fu sepolto (da ammirare il suo mausoleo realizzato intorno al 1282 da Arnolfo di Cambio con il riutilizzo di parti di un sarcofago romano).
Purtroppo l'aspetto attuale della chiesa risente di una scellerata demolizione parziale avvenuta nel 1932.
 Beautiful and imposing church, in Gothic style, located in an area of Orvieto not very frequented by tourists: the visit can therefore be unusually quiet and rewarding.
The start of construction dates back to 1233 by the Dominican Order. The building had three naves and its prestige was such that it was chosen for the teaching of theology by Thomas Aquinas; the famous cardinal Guillaume De Braye was also buried there (to admire his mausoleum built around 1282 by Arnolfo di Cambio with the reuse of parts of a Roman sarcophagus).
Unfortunately, the current appearance of the church is affected by a wicked partial demolition in 1932.
