Risale all’anno 1544 la costruzione del campanile, sulla navata nord, dono di Susanna Pico della Mirandola, vedova del conte Roberto Boschetti. Anche se a prima vista potrebbe sembrare povera, in realtà é una perla da visitare. The Basilica of San Cesario is one of the oldest and most prestigious Romanesque churches in Emilia-Romagna. Simple and solemn architecture. The bell tower was built in 1544, on the north aisle, a gift from Susanna Pico della Mirandola, widow of Count Roberto Boschetti. Although at first sight it might seem poor, in reality it is a pearl to visit.

La serie di capitelli, in cima alle colonne tonde di mattoni, richiamo abbastanza chiaramente gli ordini architettonici classici quindi, vista la data di costruzione dell'edificio, si configurano come pre-romanici. Si consiglia anche di fare un giro all'esterno per visionare le tre absidi poste sul retro dell'edificio. Very interesting church, small and perhaps little known. The series of capitals, on top of the round brick columns, quite clearly recall the classical architectural orders therefore, given the date of construction of the building, they are configured as pre-Romanesque. It is also advisable to take a tour outside to see the three apses at the back of the building.

Quello che vorrei trasmettere è la sensazione di pace e distacco dal rumoroso mondo esterno una volta che ci siamo chiusi dietro di noi il pesante portone d'ingresso. Poche candele qua e là e la fioca luce che lasciano passare le strette finestre danno al luogo un'atmosfera quasi magica, da assaporare col corpo e con l'anima. My wish to mention the artistic side of the basilica is soon dampened by the atmosphere of the place. What I would like to convey is the feeling of peace and detachment from the noisy external world once we have closed the heavy entrance door behind us. Few candles here and there and the dim light that let the narrow windows pass give the place an almost magical atmosphere, to be savored with body and soul.

La sua posizione in pieno centro senza palazzi ed edifici attaccati permettono di ammirarla in tutta la sua bellezza. Accanto ad essa, la torre campanaria.
