church of the seventeenth century, known to the Neapolitans for the Madonna Addolorata, which is celebrated on the first of June and the fifteenth of September of each year.

The origin of the church dates back to 1609, when a bourgeois, Giovanni Antonio Bianco, decided to open a chapel dedicated to Santa Brigida in his home; alongside it also built a conservatory for widows. These works were carried out without the knowledge of the curia of Naples and were therefore immediately blocked; the structures were sold to the pious Giovanna Guevara and, with the archbishop's license and with the grants of the pious woman, the structure was able to open in 1610. Finally it passed to the Lucchese fathers (Order of the Mother of God) who between 1637 and 1640 expanded the church and convent, which is currently part of Palazzo Barbaja. In the construction of the new church, which replaced the preexisting chapel of the palace, the conditions imposed by the Spanish authorities were respected, following a reminder from the castellano del Maschio Angioino, who believed that a dome of majestic dimensions was an obstacle to the shooting of the gunboats; for this reason a dome was raised only nine meters high. The Lucchesi remained until the first expulsion in the French decade; reinserted by the Bourbons of Naples in the same structure (but modified, since part of the original structures were incorporated into other civil works), they underwent a further expulsion by the Savoys in 1862. The parish is run by the Order of the Mother of God. The church is the seat of the Military Order of SS. Salvatore and S. Brigida of Sweden
