★ ★ ★ ★ ★ La chiesa di San Martino era l'antica chiesa parrocchiale di Mercuriolum, un villaggio scomparso alla fine del XV secolo. Oggi si trova all'interno del cimitero del paese, come molte altre chiesette romaniche del Monferrato.
La facciata è moderna, in finto gotico, molto brutta. La parte absidale è ancora conservata. All'interno sono presenti degli affreschi e una lapide murata antecedente al XIV secolo, ma quando l'ho visitata l'interno non era accessibile (e sicuramente non ci tornerò!)
The church of San Martino was the ancient parish church of Mercuriolum, a village that disappeared at the end of the 15th century. Today it is located inside the town's cemetery, like many other Romanesque churches in the Monferrato area.
The facade is modern, in fake Gothic, very ugly. The apse is still preserved. Inside there are frescoes and a walled tombstone before the fourteenth century, but when I visited it the interior was not accessible (and I certainly will not go back!)

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The church of San Martino was the ancient parish church of Mercuriolum, a village which disappeared at the end of the fifteenth century. Mercuriolum was recorded for the first time in 1034 due to an exchange of goods between the Abbey of Nonantola and the Counts of Pombia, and these records locate it at about one kilometre east of the centre of the village of Buttigliera that we know today.
