Sullo sfondo vi sono le montagne che separano la pianura dai valichi che conducevano al Passo dello Spluga. Nel XV secolo i canonici del S. Sepolcro furono sostituiti dai Benedettini, che vi restarono fino al 1773. Andati via i monaci, la struttura fu riconvertita in complesso rurale, che gradualmente si spopolò e portò al completo abbandono. Tra il 2006 e il 2011 sono stati eseguiti lavori di riqualificazione, restauro e valorizzazione.
