La sua particolarità è dovuta al fatto che i due vescovi che si alternarono nell'edificazione della chiesa a due secoli di distanza, Cromazio ed Elia, fecero sì che si presenti su due livelli. Ricchissima di mosaici e di reperti romani, che vennero usati in particolare per le colonne. Il catino absidale con la cattedra sono nella parte inferiore.
