A Costantinopoli la Madonna cominciò ad essere invocata col nome di Odigitria in seguito ad un miracolo presto divenuto famosissimo. Si narra che in un martedì di particolare solennità dedicato a Maria SS, due anziani ciechi stavano recandosi alla chiesa della Madonna in Costantinopoli, quando questi, smarritisi, furono guidati come per mano dalla Madonna e che non appena giunti alla chiesa ebbero miracolosamente la vista. The Church of S. Maria dell'Odigitria was originally an oratory, whose construction was completed at the end of the 1500s. In Constantinople the Madonna began to be invoked with the name of Odigitria following a miracle which soon became very famous. It is said that on a Tuesday of particular solemnity dedicated to Maria SS, two blind elders were going to the church of the Madonna in Constantinople, when these, lost, were guided as if by the hand of the Madonna and that as soon as they reached the church they miraculously had a view.

Beautiful church in the center of Acireale Old and fairly well kept. Of course it could be kept more open to worship. But .... where are the priests?

Ora però non è sempre aperta anche se ammetto che a me non servirebbe che lo fosse di più... D' altra parte è cambiato l'assetto demografico della zona. A church that I am fond of and that I also attended as a child. Now, however, it is not always open even if I admit that I would not need it to be more open ...
