★ ★ ★ ★ ★ La iglesia por dentro es bastante sencilla pero tiene su pasado, era el punto de reunión del pueblo que no podía acceder a las reuniones de los fuertes y potentes. Ravello tiene una historia muy rica y esta iglesia forma parte de ella, solo por ello vale la pena visitarla.
The church inside is quite simple but it has its past, it was the meeting point of the people who could not access the meetings of the strong and powerful. Ravello has a very rich history and this church is part of it, for that alone it is worth visiting.

Il sito su cui sorge l'attuale chiesa, in località Grado o Gradillo, nei pressi della cosiddetta "turris de Grache", era occupato da una precedente chiesa (di secolo XI o anteriore), di minori dimensioni. Essa sorgeva ad un livello leggermente inferiore; aveva tre navate sorrette da quattro colonne, transetto sopraelevato con due gradini e cripta. Di questo antico edificio sono state evidenziati perimetro, pavimento e alcune strutture. Le fonti concordano nel definire questa chiesa "antichissima".
DescrizioneIl complesso monumentale di Santa Maria a Gradillo sorge nei pressi dell'antica "torre de Grache" a pochi passi dal Palazzo Della Marra. Esso si presente come esemplare episodio di architettura romanica con forti influssi arabonormanni. L'edificio sacro, oggi interrato per circa due metri e mezzo, è a pianta longitudinale, con tre navate (di cui quella centrale molto più elevata delle laterali), coperte da capriate e volte a crociera, transetto sormontato da una cupola su alto tamburo, doppia cripta ed absidi estradossate, ciascuna delle quali presenta una monofora. Al di sopra degli archi della navata centrale si aprono ancora monofore. Le campate finali delle navate laterali e le testate del transetto, invece, ospitano delle bifore. Completano il complesso architettonico il campanile a due ordini con coronamento cilindrico e una piccola sacrestia.

XI - XI (general pre-existing buildings)
The site on which the current church stands, in the locality of Grado or Gradillo, near the so-called "turris de Grache", was occupied by an earlier church (from the 11th century or earlier), of smaller dimensions. It arose at a slightly lower level; it had three naves supported by four columns, a raised transept with two steps and a crypt. The perimeter, floor and some structures of this ancient building have been highlighted. The sources agree in defining this church as "very ancient".
Description The monumental complex of Santa Maria a Gradillo is located near the ancient "Torre de Grache" a few steps from Palazzo Della Marra. It presents itself as an exemplary episode of Romanesque architecture with strong Arab-Norman influences. The sacred building, now buried for about two and a half meters, has a longitudinal plan, with three naves (of which the central one is much higher than the side), covered by trusses and cross vaults, transept surmounted by a dome on a high drum , double crypt and extrados apses, each of which has a single lancet window. Above the arches of the central nave there are still single lancet windows. The final spans of the side naves and the heads of the transept, on the other hand, host mullioned windows. The two-tier bell tower with cylindrical crowning and a small sacristy complete the architectural complex.
