(web)
The country church of Santa Lucia is located on the right bank of the Verrino river. It belongs to the Municipality of Castelverrino, on the border with the territory of Agnone, which is about four kilometers away. The rather small church seems to date back to the 13th-14th century, when it was the seat of the abbey. The church, until a few decades ago, was the destination of many pregnant women, who donated baby clothes, dolls symbolizing pregnant women as ex voto, as well as silver or coral arms and feet. On the first Sunday of June, in the morning, thousands of faithful from neighboring areas meet at the Verrino chapel and, as is customary, proceed to the traditional kiss of the statue and to receive the sacred anointing of the eyes. Around noon, the open mass is celebrated in the open space in front of the church. At the end, the statue is carried in procession along the ceremonial perimeter of the church. The celebrations continue with a great fireworks along the river bank. Many pilgrims take the opportunity to take a picnic and, camped under the trees, consume the good things they have prepared. The church remains open until the evening, when a last mass is celebrated in honor of the Saint. (web)
