Vennero processati diversi cittadini ritenuti Rei di paganesimo, stregoneria ed altro.
Non si conoscono storicamente casi di inquisizione stregonesche finite con roghi, ma soltanto con torture e impiccagioni.
Nella seconda metà del 1400, l'idraulico civile Bartolomeo Chiozzi, realmente esistito si muschio al racconto leggendario che vuole che il Chiozzi detto il Chiozzino, avesse trovato un grimorio con cui invocare Mefistofele per chiedervi soldi, donne e fortuna in cambio della propria anima allo scadere dei vent'anni.
Ma il giorno che scadde il "contratto" il mago riuscì ad infilarsi nella vicina chiesa di San Domenico proprio qualche attimo prima che il diavolo potesse carpirgli l'anima.
