L'interno, a navata unica, è stato decorato da Paolino Albanesi di Sant'Agata Sopra, coadiuvato da Begonzoli e Galletti, dello stesso paese. Ospita oggi, fra gli altri, il dipinto della Natività di Maria Santissima, proveniente dall'omonimo oratorio di Ronco Sopra, meglio noto come oratorio di San Giulio. Le cappelle all'interno dell'edificio propongono San Giuseppe, la Sacra Famiglia, San Sebastiano, la Vergine e Santa Lucia. Il pannello di rame dell'altare è del 1992 opera del Barberis di Castelletto Ticino. The church is located in Ronco Sotto along the ancient mule track connecting the Valsesia and the lake. It is dedicated to the Roman soldier and martyr Defendente. The interior, with a single nave, was decorated by Paolino Albanesi from Sant'Agata Sopra, assisted by Begonzoli and Galletti, from the same town. Today it houses, among others, the painting of the Nativity of Mary Most Holy, from the homonymous oratory of Ronco Sopra, better known as the oratory of San Giulio. The chapels inside the building propose Saint Joseph, the Holy Family, Saint Sebastian, the Virgin and Saint Lucia. The copper panel of the altar is from 1992 by Barberis di Castelletto Ticino.

M	Michele Pierangeli on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Un piccolo paesino medioevale in ottimo stato ! Super tranquillo e con un'atmosfera fatata, alcuni gatti belli paffuti fanno da guardia. Ci sono due luoghi interessanti da vedere il piccolo moletto scendendo nelle stradine dal parcheggio e arrivati alla chiesa alla passeggiatina sulla destra. A small medieval village in excellent condition! Super quiet and with a fairy atmosphere, some plump lovely cats stand guard. There are two interesting places to see the small jetty going down the narrow streets from the parking lot and having reached the church on the right hand side.

A navata unica, orientato al contrario per evidenti ragioni di morfologia del terreno, la chiesa conserva all'interno affreschi di artisti locali e un quadro raffigurante la Natività di Maria Santissima proveniente dall'oratorio omonimo sito nella frazione di Ronco Sopra. Suggestiva comunque la collocazione della chiesa, quasi "incastrata" tra le case ed i silenziosi vicoli. The church is dedicated to the martyr San Defendente, a Roman soldier of the famous - and probably mystified - Theban Legion. A cult practiced in the small village of Ronco since the early Middle Ages and which in centuries closer to us has produced the building we admire today. With a single nave, oriented in reverse for obvious reasons of land morphology, the church preserves frescoes by local artists and a painting depicting the Nativity of the Holy Mary from the homonymous oratory located in the hamlet of Ronco Sopra. However, the location of the church is suggestive, almost "wedged" between the houses and the silent alleys.
