La piccola Cappella del Castello non era più in grado di svolgere la sua funzione e venne eretta la nuova chiesa di S. Atanasio.
La nuova costruzione comportò l'elevazione a Parrocchia della Chiesa, con i benefici annessi.
La Chiesa al suo interno conserva alcune opere d'arte della precedente Cappella.
The church was built in the second half of the eighteenth century, when Luigi Giardina bought the Feud of Ficarazzi and started a work to improve the area.
