★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Sui ruderi di una chiesa risalente alla fine dell’undicesimo secolo e di un tempietto pagano situato a nord dell’attuale Pieve di Caprignone, i francescani ricostruiscono una chiesa più grande e un piccolo cenobio che, già al tempo della fondazione, entrano a far parte della custodia eugubina. Delle due costruzioni, oggi è visibile la chiesetta mentre dai pochi resti del monastero è possibile intuire l’orientamento e la dimensione della struttura.
Ci sono più tesi sull’origine del nome Caprignone: un significato pagano che riporta alla tradizione longobarda di immolare una capra, oppure il riferimento al tempio della divinità Cupra.
L’assenza di decorazioni, lo spazio unitario delimitato da superfici nude, l’utilizzo di materiali locali sono emblema dell’essenzialità propria dei francescani, di canoni stilistici mendicanti tipici dell’architettura religiosa del centro Italia in quell’epoca.
Si narra che la piccola chiesina abbia ospitato nel 1223 il primo capitolo dell’Ordine dei francescani convocato fuori da Assisi.
On the ruins of a church dating back to the end of the eleventh century and a pagan temple located north of the current Pieve di Caprignone, the Franciscans rebuilt a larger church and a small monastery which, already at the time of its foundation, became part of of the Eugubian custody. Of the two buildings, today the church is visible while from the few remains of the monastery it is possible to guess the orientation and size of the structure.
There are more theses on the origin of the name Caprignone: a pagan meaning that refers to the Lombard tradition of sacrificing a goat, or the reference to the temple of the divinity Cupra.
The absence of decorations, the unitary space delimited by bare surfaces, the use of local materials are emblematic of the essentiality of the Franciscans, of mendicant stylistic canons typical of the religious architecture of central Italy at that time.
It is said that the small church hosted in 1223 the first chapter of the Franciscan Order convened outside Assisi.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ La chiesa di Caprignone è ricavata dai ruderi di una chiesa risalente alla fine dell'XI secolo e di un tempietto pagano. I francescani ricostruiscono un piccolo convento ed il loro tempio. Si trova facilmente percorrendo il sentiero di San Francesco nel tratto tra Biscina e l'eremo di San Pietro in Vigneto a Gubbio. Nella piccola chiesa si svolge la funzione solo la mattina del 15 agosto essendo in onore dell'assunzione della beata vergine Maria
The Caprignone church is obtained from the ruins of a church dating back to the end of the 11th century and a pagan temple. The Franciscans rebuild a small convent and their temple. It is easily found along the path of San Francesco in the section between Biscina and the hermitage of San Pietro in Vigneto in Gubbio. In the small church the function takes place only on the morning of August 15, being in honor of the assumption of the blessed virgin Mary
