La chiesetta si trova in un contesto di case e campagna. The ruin of this little church, in that context of oaks, plants and lava stone from the lava flow, make it a little corner of history. Vi stanno lentamente scomparendo per l'indifferenza della comunità locale degli affreschi della deposizione di Gesù dalla croce, di santa Lucia, patrona dell'antica Malpasso e di Belpasso e della protezione della Madonna durante un'eruzione (1537?). Il pavimento in cotto esagonale rischia di essere asportato. Gli altari in muratura stuccati e affrescati si sgretolano. La comunità ecclesiale locale, già impegnata in una corsa contro il tempo per salvare altre opere (da secoli di abbandono) non può fare fronte da sola anche a questa situazione. La parrocchia e il Santuario vicino si sono posti a promotori di iniziative culturali e spirituali in loco (conferenze, notti bianche, protocollo d'intesa tra i comuni di Mascalucia e di Belpasso). Attorno il sito delle "Potteghelle di Malpasso". Urge un progetto che sia il frutto di un concorso di forze almeno per salvare il salvabile.
