The Church of the Annunciation was developed from an existing sixteenth-century chapel. Following restoration work in the 1600s, it was elevated to church dignity. Inside the church, on the main altar, there is the painting on the panel of the Annunciation attributed to Simone da Firenze.

Located in the heart of the country, perfectly inserted in the urban context. The interiors, extensively remodeled according to the six / seven hundred taste, offer nothing particularly relevant apart from the majolica floors. XVI - XVII (pre-existing ABSIDE) The apse is topped by a dome with splayed windows, framed by pilasters. On the back wall of the apse there is one of the most valuable works of Maratea and its surroundings, namely a depiction of the Annunciation. The painting, a panel painting from the first half of the 16th century made according to an iconography inspired by the schemes of the Tuscan school, is exceptionally beautiful for the chromatic balance and composure of the subject. Many discussions raise the identification of its author who, according to some, would be Marco Pino from Siena, while for others it may be Simone from Florence. Description The church of the Annunziata is located in the Piazza del Borgo, the historic center of Maratea, and is recognizable for its Moorish bell tower and its monumental facade, which completes the scenography of the city street together with the marble column of S. Biagio, a simple monument erected, by the will of the people, on 13 July 1758. The church of the Annunziata in Maratea already existed in the state of a chapel in the 16th century. In 1585 it was at the center of a lively ecclesiastical dispute with the parish priest of S. Maria Maggiore, which was only resolved in 1589 with the elevation of this church to the right of baptism. The current architectural structure is the result of the works of 1748, which ended with the solemn Mass celebrated by the Marateot bishop Onofrio Maria Gennari.

The church I meet as I leave the house and where I have spent part of my life. Today I find myself with old friends protected by the statue of S. Biagio. To visit for its beauty.

Clean church where whites dominate good-hand frescoes all in a simple context of a seaside town. The bell tower and the column on the outside are very beautiful.
