Il nome si collega al grande crocifisso del monastero di San Colombano, ceduto dagli Agostini ai Della Gherardesca intorno al 1519.
La chiesa è un edificio ad aula unica, sulla facciata a capanna svetta un mosaico con immagine sacra e nella porta laterale lo stemma Della Gherardesca.
L' Aspetto odierno si deve al forte intervento di restauro fatto da Walfredo Della Gherardesca nel 1920.
In 1387 in the square in front of the parish church, a special church was built for the people who did not want or could not be part of the former.
The name is connected to the large crucifix of the monastery of San Colombano, ceded by the Agostini to the Della Gherardesca around 1519.
The church is a building with a single room, a mosaic with a sacred image stands out on the gabled façade and the Della Gherardesca coat of arms in the side door.
Today's appearance is due to the strong restoration carried out by Walfredo Della Gherardesca in 1920.
