La chiesa del Carmelo chiude idealmente, col suo ridente prospetto, il corso principale di Raffadali che è via Nazionale. Si tratta di una delle chiese più antiche del paese e in passato ospitava anche I frati carmelitani. Non è parrocchia, ma è rettoria della vicina chiesa Madre. Sul prospetto si legge un'esortazione :" Lodate Maria, o lingue fedeli " . Salendo per I gradoni di pietra bianca e superando il portale sormontato da eleganti fregi ornamentali, si accede all'interno della chiesa che si presenta come un'ampia sala ricca di decorazioni barocche , ma che richiederebbe un serio e meticoloso restauro. La pala ospitata nell'altare maggiore è un'opera di Domenico Provenzani e rappresenta "la divina Pastorella ", mentre ai lati sono presenti altri altari con statue che rappresentano la Crocifissione, alcuni santi carmelitani e, in una nicchia finemente decorata, si può ammirare una bellissima statua della Madonna del Carmelo, opera di Vincenzo Genovese (autore anche di altre opere che si trovano in paese) dalla bella posa artistica e apprezzabile sia per i colori che per il panneggio delle vesti, raffigurata nell'atto di porgere lo scapolare a san Simone Stock e che meriterebbe, a mio avviso, una esposizione migliore per essere ammirata dai fedeli. La chiesa, in passato luogo privilegiato per le preghiere ai defunti e alle anime del Purgatorio, ospita una cripta in cui erano stati rinvenuti dei resti di alcune sepolture, molto probabilmente di frati carmelitani. Sulla sommità del timpano è presente, oltre alla croce, una banderuola di ferro che segna la direzione del vento e che ha dato origine al detto popolare " essiri comu a bannera du carminu" con cui si vuole indicare una persona che è priva di fermezza. Nel lungo periodo che ha interessato il restauro della chiesa Madre (1997-2011), tutte le funzioni e le feste che venivano celebrate nella chiesa principale, sono state celebrate nella chiesa del Carmelo che ha così goduto di un lungo periodo "di gloria ", in attesa sempre di un restauro valido che possa valorizzare al massimo questo bene storico, religioso e monumentale e possa farlo apprezzare al meglio da tutta la comunità.

The Carmelo church ideally closes the main street of Raffadali, which is via Nazionale, with its delightful façade. It is one of the oldest churches in the country and in the past it also housed the Carmelite friars. It is not a parish, but it is the rectory of the nearby Mother Church. On the prospectus we read an exhortation: "Praise Mary, or faithful tongues". Going up the white stone steps and passing the portal surmounted by elegant ornamental friezes, you enter the church which looks like a large room full of baroque decorations, but which would require a serious and meticulous restoration. The altarpiece housed in the main altar is a work of Domenico Provenzani and represents "the divine Shepherdess", while on the sides there are other altars with statues representing the Crucifixion, some Carmelite saints and, in a finely decorated niche, you can admire a beautiful statue of the Madonna del Carmelo, the work of Vincenzo Genovese (also author of other works found in the village) with a beautiful artistic pose and appreciable both for the colors and for the drapery of the clothes, depicted in the act of handing the scapular to St. Simon Stock and who, in my opinion, deserves a better exposure to be admired by the faithful. The church, in the past a privileged place for prayers to the dead and to the souls in Purgatory, houses a crypt in which the remains of some tombs were found, most likely of Carmelite friars. On the top of the tympanum there is, in addition to the cross, an iron weather vane which marks the direction of the wind and which gave rise to the popular saying "essiri comu a bannera du carminu" with which we want to indicate a person who lacks firmness. In the long period that involved the restoration of the Mother Church (1997-2011), all the functions and feasts that were celebrated in the main church were celebrated in the Carmelite church which thus enjoyed a long period of "glory". always waiting for a valid restoration that can make the most of this historical, religious and monumental asset and can make it appreciated to the fullest by the whole community.
