Ha subito svariate ristrutturazioni (l'ultima nel 2018 dopo i forti terremoti del 2016). Oggi appare come una chiesa moderna. Dal 1847 quando venne avviata la costruzione, la chiesa fu aperta al culto nel 1908. Solo nel dopoguerra vennero costruite la gradinata esterna e la facciata principale in stile rinascimentale rivestita in travertino ascolano. Nel 1986 è stata elevata a cattedrale. All'interno è possibile ammirare un recente affresco di 400 metri quadrati raffigurante le tradizioni marinare della città ma anche un settecentesco "Vergine della Vittoria con bambino", reliquie dei martiri S. Urbica e S. Illuminato, un bassorilievo scolpito dall'artista Aldo Sergiacomi e un "Battesimo di Gesù" dell'artista Armando Marchegiani. La cattedrale custodisce anche l'"Albo dei caduti civili del Mare", l'elenco dei marittimi sambenedettesi che nei secoli hanno perduto la vita sul lavoro. Lots of hidden history. Internamente dopo l'ultimo terremoto del 2016 ha subito ristrutturazione agli intonaci,sembra più moderna,l'altare è stupendo.Esternamente ce un bel piazzale con una bella fontana,è ai lati circondata da edifici d'epoca. Una domenica quella presso la Chiesa Cattedrale della Madonna della Marina in San Benedetto del Tronto AP all'insegna della celebrazione di un matrimonio e successivamente di un battesimo, entrambi alla "presenza" venerabile dell'urna contenente le sacre spoglie di Bernadette Soubirous. Quest'ultima contenenti le spoglie della santa é posta nei pressi del sacro altare é protetta da una teca in cristallo con tre vigilanti che la sorvegliano nelle immediate vicinanze, resterà fino al 24 maggio c.a. e sarà meta di pellegrini e credenti per vivere in modo intenso e spirito rinnovato questo mese dedicato al S.Rosario e alla Vergine Maria. Con gioia e devozione rechiamoci a far visita a Colei che vide con i propri occhi la Vergine Santa nelle Sue apparizioni affinché allievi le nostre sofferenze, recitando il Santo Rosario. Opere pittoriche e scultoree quasi assenti...ma una rappresentazione moderna di difficile interpretazione sullo sfondo, da' il senso della storia della comunità diocesana degli ultimi duecento anni.
