Martinengo Castle of Villachiara. Martinengo Castle in Villachiara in the province of Brescia from the Renaissance period has a square plan structure, a classic of lowland castles, originally it was surrounded by a moat which has now become a perimeter garden. It was owned by the Martinengo family and was built in the late 1300s. It was the residence of Marcantonio Martinengo who also participated in the famous battle of Lepanto against the Ottoman Empire. Unfortunately, the castle cannot be visited and can only be admired from the outside. Within a few kilometers from the castle of Villachiara you can go to Villagana to visit the Martinengo Palace, also closed to the public, and Soncino with its Rocca Sforzesca which is open to the public and also the various craft shops of this beautiful village. I recommend a visit to these places for their beauty and their historical value.

The building is in a state of semi-abandonment and cannot be visited; in addition, an external hedge placed close to the fence even prevents its visual usability from the outside ... the place has a lot of potential but should be further enhanced to make it attractive as a tourist destination.

Typical castle ? with a square plan of the flat area of Brescia which dates back to the fourteenth century, it would deserve more attention and enhancement from a tourist point of view
