We came in to check the place and book a room for three nights. The receiption staff were so great but they have this guy that followed me to the pool area asking me to leave because I am not a guest while the receptionest welcomed me to go check out the property. First time in my life I feel this annoyed. If not for this manager guy everything else was nice

The location, rooms, views, thermal pools, design, architecture and general wow factor of staying in this castle are all truly 5 stars. The tackiness of the pricing and pretentious wait staff at the terrace restaurant leave us with a sour taste. We’ve stayed at fine hotels all over the world but this takes the cake with regard to moments when you truly feel taken advantage of. For $1k a night, one might at least expect not to be charged for water, but at castello di velona they spare no opportunity to squeeze the guests. Bring your own water, wine and make day trips and dinner reservations away from the hotel and you will be happy as can be! We were appalled by the prices on the wine list and generally uncomfortable with the way the wait staff treated us as they learned we weren’t going for the $200 plus wines and steaks at dinner. With such delicious and reasonably priced dining in the area, it just doesn’t make sense!!! This is the type of place where 1-2 nights is more than enough. Splurge on the room with the view and terrace but request not to be directly under the restaurant if you can. The complimentary breakfast is nice, the sautéed tomatoes were our favorite. Ciao!

The place looks beautiful. Very tasteful. The pool with thermal water a big plus. But why i only gave it 3stars is that for such an upscale place the staff was not very friendly. Their English is so bad that it often caused misunderstandings. A smile would have made a change, but it felt very unfriendly and tense. The waiter at the pool who was from Sicily was a pleasant relief, very friendly and his English okay. Compliments to him. We were a bit disappointed. Especially since we are big fans of the Chateau Relais resorts.

WILL TAKE YOUR MONEY AND NOT GIVE YOU THE ROOM YOU BOOKED I have to assume this hotel has been struggling through Covid. We booked a Unesco View Terrace Suite for 1200+ Euros a night for our honeymoon, yet when we arrived, we we're given a room that was poorly lit, poorly furnished and did not match the description on their website at all. We asked for another room "in the newer part of the hotel" but were not offered a suite. The hotel did not attempt to upgrade us, they just explained that "all of the rooms are a bit different." We kindly let them know that we understand miscommunications happen, and we asked them to cancel our stay, since they were unable to offer us the room we booked. They refused. When we asked to speak to the GM, we were told the GM was "tied up in meetings for the day." Additionally we attempted to contact the GM for several days after we left to resolve the situation and were ignored. We left and found other accommodations, and filed a credit card dispute which they have been contesting, with vague and untrue responses. The Michelin Star restaurant was closed as well for the duration of our stay and we were told they would "open it when then demand was there." This hotel is clearly going through some difficult times, however beware of a "bait and switch" with an establishment that is struggling for cash flow and just trying to take your money. It sounds like it was nice some time ago.

Amazing place at the top of the hills great view incredible sunset and the pool with thermal water is the Best. Staff is friendly and the rooms are well decorated with the Tuscan vibe. Breakfast is a variated buffet with a lot of selection.

What a fabulous place! All the staff made sure our stay was a happy and memorable one. The hotel position is extraordinary, views amazing. All our meals were delicious and beautifully presented and the tasting menu was such a treat. The wine tour was most interesting and the wine tasting very informative. We left feeling we had had an exceptional experience, and with their own wine and olive oil in the boot of the car to enjoy for the rest of our trip to Italy. Thank you to everyone who looked after us so well. We would love to come back.

Beware - this is not a spa. We booked a day trip to the spa and dinner for a group and was underwhelmed by the amenities. The view is spectacular but the amenities were sparse and overpriced. We spent a day at the spa and had dinner. We spent thousands of dollars to sit in a warm pool with only a few of the jets working. 2 steam saunas inside were nice but it was not clean and the waters were warm but the jets and hot tubs were not working. Dinner and drinks were overpriced and while the staff was nice enough, service did not go above and beyond as I would expect for the cost. The locker room was tiny with no amenities or products available. When we raised concerns we were dismissed and staff at check out were not helpful or even friendly. There are many other great places with beautiful views and I would suggest going elsewhere for a spa and dinner. I suspect there may be financial issues here and they need to invest more if they want to claim they are a 5 star location.

The best Spa I have been in my life This has been the best spa trip I have every experienced in my life. They have 4 thermal baths, a salt water jacuzzi, super nice dining and great panoramic views on the Tuscan hills. Also they have their own thermal water tap in your bathroom so you can bathe in privacy alone or with your partner, l loved it. Best time is the sunrise and sunset the views are just stunning and to die for. They have their own wine which is also 10/10 I will come back for sure!
