Disappointing .... the municipality should allocate more funds to the castle, because it would bring more revenue .... now is in a state of including garden abandonment.

Graceful castle, it is a pity that the furniture has been lost over the centuries, but it is still important since it was inhabited by the Isnards, a very rich family.Open only on Sundays a year

Even if only sparse, there are files on the town of Sanfré dating back to the middle of the XI. Century. Then it was called Castrum Synfredi, probably derived from "sinus frigidus", the statement about the cold air that typically flows around this area. Umberto II. Di Savoia, who courageously promoted the repopulation of Piedmont, which had been depopulated by the Saracens 100 years earlier, donated Sanfré to the Bishop of Asti in 1098. At that time there must have already been a Castello di Sanfrè, because in 1224 Bonifacio de Brayda, who was granted the fief of Sanfrè, received permission to build a new one instead of the old one. However, not at the point where this new Castello is to this day after an eventful history. The old Castello di Sanfrè, as well as the medieval town center, were located where the Chiesa della SS. Trinita (mentioned since 1386) was later built. With the outgoing XIII. In the 17th century, Sanfré went to the Isnardi de Castello, a respected family of bankers from Asti, whose ancient roots point to France ... More information about this castle, which is absolutely worth seeing, can be found in the PIEMONT non-fiction book series Volume I "Märchenschlösser" by Caroline Sesta (publication date spring 2019).

Castello molto bello.
Very nice castle. A great pity that over the centuries it has passed from the hands of several people, including nuns .... who have partly distorted their beauty, erasing paintings and frescoes considered too risque. It has a very beautiful garden, and from the balcony of the park you can see a truly enchanting panorama. The guide who accompanied us was able to keep the interest of visitors high, telling the story of the castle in a brilliant way. Possibility of parking adjacent to the castle, at the end of the tour it was possible to taste the typical dessert of the area, included in the ticket. Very satisfied with the visit. Too bad it is a bit bare of furnishings, but if you pass by there it is worth a visit!
