Costruito probabilmente nel XIV secolo come fortificazione dei Pelletta all'interno del loro possesso fondiario, è stato rimaneggiato nei secoli anche se si può intravedere la parte originaria, la torretta presso l'ingresso, intorno alla quale si sono poi accatastate costruzioni di forme diverse. Il complesso, irregolare nella planimetria, è accessibile tramite un ponte levatoio che introduce al cortile interno. È visitabile durante la manifestazione "castelli aperti". È utilizzato per eventi, non sempre aperto al pubblico. Fosse tenuto meglio sarebbe un'attrazione storica degna di nota. It is the second castle of Costigliole d'Asti, with a beautiful drawbridge. Too bad it's a little overlooked, the garden is full of brushwood. It is used for events, not always open to the public. If it were better kept it would be a noteworthy historical attraction.

Al nucleo medioevale originale, del XII secolo, sono stati aggiunti, a partire dal XVII secolo, altri fabbricati. Sono comunque ancora visibili i massicci torrioni e la difesa dell'ingresso, col ponte levatoio e una torretta poligonale merlata. Non ha mai ricoperto una funzione particolarmente strategica, essendo destinato soprattutto ad uso agricolo. In epoca medioevale è stato di proprietà delle diverse famiglie astigiane che ricoprirono la Signoria di Burio, dai Pelletta ai Roero, dai Malabayla ai Pallio. Nei secoli successivi passò alla famiglia Asinari, prima che la proprietà venisse frazionata in quote, poi unificate e riacquisite nel XX secolo dal conte Luigi Lanzavecchia. Dopo anni di abbandono è stato acquistato da un gruppo di architetti ed artisti (di nazionalità svizzera e tedesca) che lo hanno ristrutturato con l'intenzione di renderlo abitabile, senza stravolgerne l'aspetto estetico, e di valorizzarlo come sede di mostre e di manifestazioni culturali ed artistiche. However, the massive towers and defense of the entrance are still visible, with the drawbridge and a crenellated polygonal tower. It has never covered a particularly strategic function, being destined above all for agricultural use. In medieval times it was owned by the different Asti families who held the Lordship of Burio, from the Pelletta to the Roero, from the Malabayla to the Pallio. In the following centuries it passed to the Asinari family, before the property was divided into shares, then unified and reacquired in the 20th century by Count Luigi Lanzavecchia. After years of neglect it was bought by a group of architects and artists (of Swiss and German nationality) who renovated it with the intention of making it habitable, without distorting its aesthetic appearance, and enhancing it as a venue for exhibitions and events cultural and artistic.

Conserva molto della struttura originaria , ma non negli arredi. Gli attuali proprietari hanno apportato alcune modifiche in chiave moderna all'interno della struttura soprattutto negli arredi originali e artistici. Alla sera ha un fascino particolare pensando alla storia del maniero. Di giorno nella parte alta si gode ďi una visuale unica sui vigneti patrimonio dell'Unesco. Merita una visita.
