Alti muri di cinta circondati da un fossato che era addirittura navigabile. Mi riservo l'ultima stellina a quando riuscirò a visitarlo anche Internamente, dato che la prima domenica dell'anno era chiuso! Beautiful fortification, partially destroyed but still perfectly preserved. High boundary walls surrounded by a moat that was even navigable. I reserve the last star for when I will be able to visit it internally too, since it was closed on the first Sunday of the year!
S	Sigfrido on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Il Cassero Senese costruito nel XIV secolo è un imponente fortificazione lungo le Mura di Grosseto, situata nel complesso del Bastione Fortezza. Assieme a Porta Vecchia, il Cassero Senese è l'unico elemento architettonico della cinta muraria di epoca medievale che è stato risparmiato durante i lavori di ricostruzione delle mura, avvenuti nella seconda metà del Cinquecento. Si presenta come un basso ma imponente torrione a sezione rettangolare, rivestito esternamente in travertino. Sul lato che si affaccia all'esterno delle mura sono degni di nota lo stemma bianco e nero di Siena e il caratteristico doppio arco, dove quello a sesto acuto spicca evidentemente al di sopra di quello tondo ribassato; le rifiniture sono in travertino e marmo nero. La doppia porta che si apre era l'antica Porta di Santa Lucia, che costituiva un punto di accesso al centro storico lungo la cinta medievale. Attualmente il Cassero è utilizzato principalmente per l'esposizione di mostre di carattere artistico e fotografico. The Cassero Senese built in the fourteenth century is an imposing fortification along the Walls of Grosseto, located in the complex of the Bastione Fortezza. Together with Porta Vecchia, the Cassero Senese is the only architectural element of the medieval walls that was spared during the reconstruction of the walls, which took place in the second half of the sixteenth century. It looks like a low but imposing tower with a rectangular section, externally clad in travertine. On the side facing the outside of the walls, the black and white coat of arms of Siena and the characteristic double arch, where the pointed arch clearly stands out above the lowered round one, are noteworthy; the finishes are in travertine and black marble. The double door that opens was the ancient Porta di Santa Lucia, which was an access point to the historic center along the medieval walls. Currently the Cassero is mainly used for the display of exhibitions of an artistic and photographic nature.
