Penetrati nel bosco che circonda il Santuario attraverso il sentiero che sale al Monte Penna, dopo pochi metri ci si imbatte in una cappella con un lungo cortile recintato nella sua parte anteriore. È la cosiddetta Cappella del Faggio, eretta nel punto in cui, intorno al 1300 e precisamente ai tempi del frate francescano Beato Giovanni, sorgeva un enorme faggio. Il frate, che visse per trent'anni in un romitorio non distante da qui, era solito recarsi a pregare proprio sotto la pianta, dove, un giorno, incontrò Gesù: da quel momento l'albero divenne meta di un incessante pellegrinaggio devozionale. Quando nel 1500 circa il faggio si seccò, al suo posto fu edificata nel 1518 l'attuale Cappella. Le radici della pianta sono ancora oggi visibili presso l'altare dell'edificio (il quale, tuttavia, è chiuso). Una Cappella umile ma suggestiva, immersa nel bosco (di faggi, naturalmente).

Enter the wood surrounding the Sanctuary through the path that climbs to Monte Penna, after a few meters you will come across a chapel with a long fenced courtyard in its front. It is the so-called Cappella del Faggio, built on the spot where, around 1300 and precisely at the time of the Franciscan friar Beato Giovanni, an enormous beech stood. The friar, who lived for thirty years in a hermitage not far from here, used to go to pray right under the tree, where, one day, he met Jesus: from that moment the tree became the destination of an incessant devotional pilgrimage. When the beech dried around 1500, the current chapel was built in its place in 1518. The roots of the plant are still visible today at the altar of the building (which, however, is closed). A humble but suggestive chapel, immersed in the woods (of beech trees, of course).
