Usciti dall'ingresso situato di fronte alla chiesa di Santa Maria degli Angeli e imboccata la stradina lastricata in discesa inclusa nel sentiero CAI 50, si nota sullo sfondo una cappella eretta in un magnifico scenario naturale di maestosi faggi. È la cosiddetta Cappella degli Uccelli, edificata nel 1602 per ricordare un episodio riportato nei Fioretti di San Francesco, secondo cui il santo, quando giunse al Santuario per la prima volta alla Verna nel 1213, venne accolto da un chiassoso, gioioso stormo di uccelli di ogni tipo e specie proprio nel punto esatto dove sorge ora la Cappella. L'episodio è raffigurato in un affresco di Baccio Maria Bacci nel Corridoio delle Stimmate presso il Santuario. La porta della Cappella è chiusa ma attraverso uno spioncino ricavato nella stessa si può sbirciare all'interno e si possono distinguere la statua di San Francesco e le figure di tre uccelli.

Leaving the entrance located in front of the church of Santa Maria degli Angeli and taking the downhill paved road included in the CAI path 50, you can see in the background a chapel erected in a magnificent natural setting of majestic beech trees. It is the so-called Cappella degli Uccelli, built in 1602 to commemorate an episode reported in the Fioretti di San Francesco, according to which the saint, when he arrived at the Sanctuary for the first time at La Verna in 1213, was greeted by a noisy, joyful flock of birds of every type and species in the exact point where the Chapel now stands. The episode is depicted in a fresco by Baccio Maria Bacci in the Corridor of the Stigmata at the Sanctuary. The door of the Chapel is closed but through a peephole made in the same you can peek inside and you can distinguish the statue of San Francesco and the figures of three birds.
