★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This review is for the cooking class: Cooking With the Dutchess, which is held in the palace. I have taken many culinary courses all around the world, and I can say without hesitation that so far this is the very best.
The Dutchess is very attentive, patient, and humorously answers any and all questions about 'la cucina italiana'. I would recommend this class to anyone passing through Palermo, even if only for a day.
It's an indescribably unique experience, incorporating only the fresh local(seasonal) ingredients as well as quite a bit of local history. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Seeing the final draft of Giuseppe Tomasi di Lampedusa's masterpiece Il Gattopardo (The Leopard) would have been all it needed to give this magnificent palazzo a top rating. Add to that the lovely apartment with stunning ocean views, attentive and friendly staff, a chance to dine with one of Sicily's most celebrated chefs (the gorgeous, vivacious and fascinating Duchess of Palma di Montechiaro, Nicoletta Polo Lanza Tomasi) and you have the perfect recipe for a resounding five stars. Grazie mille e brava!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Nicolleta, her husband and staff are so charming and citizens of the world, the setting of their historic palace exceptional, participating in the shopping and cooking so fun & educational and the food DELICIOUS! I can't imagine any experience in Sicily exceeding our wonderful day with Nicolleta!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ What a beautiful and perfectly located place to stay in Palermo! Nicoletta and her assistants are amazing and helpful. There was a water leak in the room we were supposed to stay in the night before we arrived, the staff alerted us as soon as it happened (1 am) and made other arrangements for our stay so quickly and easily. The apartments are lovely and very close to many things to do and see. Would definitely recommend staying here if you are in Palermo.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ We had a very disappointing stay at butera 28. A bummer for naive tourists, nothing more! The flats are run down and would really need an update…especially the bathroom and kitchen as they are ancient (not in an interesting way!). We couldn’t really see anything about the Gattopardo experience as they like to sell it as the flats are independent and there was not even a chance in our stay to pay a quick visit at the historic rooms. There are plenty of accommodations in Palermo that can offer charming historic settings, as well as comforts and at much better prices. I was staying at a flat in the same street before moving to Butera, really charming and comfortable…and at half of the price!
