Costruito all'inizio del XII secolo, distrutto più volte, fu teatro di un famoso episodio nel 1423.
Durante una ribellione dei nobili tirolesi, Federico d'Austria assedio' il castello. I difensori, per far credere di avere viveri in gran quantità, gettarono un maiale arrosto sugli assediati e da quel momento, il castello è conosciuto anche come Castel del Porco. Si raggiunge da San Maurizio, nei pressi dell'Ospedale di Bolzano, con un impegnativo percorso in salita di circa 6,5 km ( 2 ore abbondanti....)
 These are the ruins, spectacularly perched on a sheer peak, of one of the ancient castles of South Tyrol.
Built at the beginning of the 12th century, destroyed several times, it was the scene of a famous episode in 1423.
During a rebellion of the Tyrolean nobles, Frederick of Austria besieged the castle. The defenders, to make people believe they had plenty of food, threw a roast pig on the besieged and from that moment on, the castle is also known as Castel del Porco. It can be reached from San Maurizio, near the Bolzano hospital, with a challenging uphill path of about 6.5 km (2 hours abundant ....)

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Tolle Aussicht , man sollte jedoch trittsicher sein...für kleine Kinder und Menschen mit Problemen beim Laufen nicht zu empfehlen...
Great view, but you should be sure-footed...not recommended for small children and people with walking problems...

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ If you like hiking, definitely add this place to your list. Path which was marked as "easy" is not so easy (for us, people who hike only couple of times per year). But worth it, especially when a castle and a nice restaurant are waiting at the end.
The castle unfortunately is already in ruins, but from its walls and windows we could catch nice pictures of the valley lying below.
Restaurant Noafer next to the castle would was also a good reward for this hiking trip.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Cool place which you can reach easily by hiking up for about 2h from the next bus station (Scuole Siebeneich, path no. 11a starts right next to the station).
This place is empty, so no tours inside or entry you would have to pay. To enter you need to climbed a little (nothing hard!).
From there you can continue and follow the signs to 'Noafer' to have food and a glas of great local wine before starting your descent following path no. 9 back to Bolzano).
