★ ★ ★ ★ ★ A perfect place for a stop in the Dolomites. Splendid views, especially for sunset and sunrise, wonderful hiking trails and cuisine you can not forget! It was our second stay here and it was a good choice, again!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Refugio Passo Giau has been the best Refugio we stayed in during the entire Alta Via 1. Diago and Claudia are very welcoming and really went above and beyond to help us out with transporting our luggage to the next stop. Friendly staff, and tasty food. Best breakfast we had (they had fresh fruit!!!). Room was great, very clean and spacious and every window had an amazing view. Highly reccomend staying here :)

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I felt unwelcome. I would not go back. I don't recommend stopping there.
I was there with a group during our hike. I bought water and the the guy at the bar indignantly insisted that he was in the right when there was a misunderstanding about what I ordered. The same guy came over say "I'm sorry but this is not a picnic area" when I started to eat a snack from my bag (at the table where everyone had purchased drinks). And then followed me out to the cold and drizzling patio where all the tables were empty and the chairs were wet to say that this was also not a picnic area.
Maybe it was one person's bad day, maybe they have strict rules, but whatever it was, it felt inhospitable and the experience shook me. Everywhere else we've been in the Dolomites the people have been lovely. This in contrast felt rude, unwelcoming, and unhappy. I would not go back. I don't recommend stopping there.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Stunning location right at the top of the pass. The interior is full of wonderful antiques and the bedroom are very comfortable. Some of the room have a view of the mountain at sunrise which is really special. The food is great and the staff are lovely. The owners are also really friendly and interesting.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ We had a fantastic stay at the Berghotel as part of our honeymoon Alta Via 1 trek! Beautiful room and view, a lovely bar and dinner with a wide range of wine selection. A warm and friendly welcome from the proprietor (what an amazing lady!) and last but not least, 4 types of homemade cakes for breakfast! A trip to remember and we hope to be back soon.
