He took us to three locations and shared his knowledge and enthusiasm for the volcano, geology and Etna ecosystems. The first location was a lava tube tunnel where we climbed inside the tunnel with hard hats that he provided. The second location was climbing up a lateral crater, that had a spectacular view. The third was where an eruption 20 years ago destroyed two hotels and the ski cable car. Maurizio even provided us with warm jackets to wear, including our two young children. Our son (5 years) enjoyed hearing his stories about Etna and we did as well. Our youngest (3 years) was unfortunately car sick but Maurizio did not mind and took the tour very slowly to match her little legs, which we greatly appreciated. At the end of the day he even drove us around his home town of Linguaglossa and showed us the sights from his car. We felt like we spent the day with a friend.
