Basilica San Francesco d'Assisi - Piacenza

The basilica of San Francesco d'Assisi also known as the church of San Francesco d'Assisi is an ancient church of Piacenza. Built between 1278 and 1363 by the will of the Ghibelline Ubertino Landi, it is in Lombard Gothic style with a terracotta facade. Work of the friars minor who wanted to expand the primitive church, it was transformed, at the end of the 18th century, into a hospital and warehouse. After Napoleon's exile, it was returned to the religious and in 1848 the annexation of Piacenza to the Kingdom of Piedmont was proclaimed there. It has two buttresses on the façade, a rose window, spire and spiers, as well as a fifteenth-century central portal and powerful flying buttresses on the sides. On the right side was the cloister, of which only a portico remains. . . .
