Basilica dello Spirito Santo

Visited for the exhibition of "The Terracotta Army" concerning the warriors found in the 70s of the last century at the tomb of the first Chinese emperor. The entrance ticket is an exaggeration [12 euros] also because there are no original pieces, but rather copies of the famous terracotta warriors and this can only be found inside by reading between the captions. This makes even more anger if you think that at the same price you visit Pompeii or the National Archaeological Museum of Naples. Good scenography and presentation of over 180 warriors.

I was in the Basilica of the Holy Spirit on the occasion of the exhibition on the terra cotta army. Although I knew Naples very well I had never been to this Basilicata which left me speechless from the first moment I uploaded the dream. I recommend everyone to visit it because it is worth it.

The basilica of the Holy Spirit in via Toledo is one of the numerous ecclesian-religious buildings that stood within the Spanish walls of Naples (mid-16th century). Built in the 16th century, it was redecorated in the 17th century. Today used as an exhibition space and also for concerts. A valuable architectural structure, which fades into the background, being in an area rich in history and art (the historic center of Naples is rightly a UNESCO World Heritage Site). In these days (25/10/2017 - 28/01/2018) it hosts the Italian preview of the exhibition on the terracotta army of the first Chinese emperor of the III century BC. These are reproductions (it is not very clear, however) of a group of the original statues, 170 in all, plus a series of other (original?) Finds. An exhibition potentially of great interest and impact, partly lost due to the choices of presentation and ilustration, and methods of use. Many, too many texts, whose choices do not always seem appropriate (for example, a historical framework that is not adequate for the poor common knowledge of the Chinese history of the time, and then perhaps an excessive indulgence in details of palace / family struggles that squeeze the 'eye to the minimalist anecdote now prevailing). More use of multimedia and perhaps an audio guide would have helped. A greater presence of caretakers could reduce if not avoid the hugs to the statues for photos or selfies, and the pedestals used as seats by careless conversationalists, which reduce the usability of others. Under these conditions, the 12 euros of the ticket become excessive. Too bad, because, as mentioned, in better conditions it could have a big impact.

Today used as an exhibition space and for concerts, it hosted the pioneering immersive digital art experience "Klimt Experience" created by the video artists of The Fake Factory.
