A living testimony in memory of what happened in the area during the Second World War, the interesting and innovative approach used is the meticulous research carried out on the individual finds, which makes the frightening experiences that happened to individual soldiers and civilians even closer and more dramatic. Although not large, the museum is full of artifacts well described by talented and passionate guides in about 90 minutes. We are history. To visit!!!!

Ambra
A must visit for anyone who loves history. Through weapons, uniforms, historical documents, photographs and videos, you can immerse yourself in the years of the Italian campaign, years that profoundly marked the population of the Garigliano Valley and beyond. Mr. Giuseppe enchants and surprises with his stories and anecdotes, a witty orator who you no longer want to stop listening to. Amber

We were at the war museum, every detail is taken care of with care and dedication and the place is full of artifacts found in the area. We were lucky enough to do a tour with the founder, who gave us all the information and information on historical events. Pretty the part where exhibits are re-used in post-war everyday life.

The building looks not big from the outside, but inside it starts a real adventure. Here you can go back in time. The very rich collection. The owner tells very interesting stories from WWII. I sincerely recommend it.

Wonderful, small museum lavished with love and a zeal for sharing local WWII history. Leans toward the diehard historian rather than mainstream. Museum feels in transition from small town collection of artifacts to something more significant. Unlike many other Italian WWII presentations, this museum invested heavily in lighting, housing of artifacts, mannequins for uniforms, flat screen TVs, and a long-term venue in middle of town. The big infrastructural & presentational financial investments are there. What’s missing is narrative. If a visitor is not familiar with this history, the story doesn’t get told here. Not in the displays, anyway, through explanations of what this theater was and why Castelforte matters. Nor are there many captions along the way. Museum offers a thoughtful, detailed guidebook with English descriptions which clearly took much effort, but it doesn’t substitute for a visitor looking at an artifact and seeing a caption with basic info. The idea is that a human guide spins the narrative for visitors in lieu of the written word. Downside of that choice is it doesn’t scale. It relies on English-speaking humans to make it go. If those humans aren’t available, museum has no spine. We're trained as museum-goers to follow a top-level story and perhaps deep dive on smaller explanatory text & captions. If there’s neither, we can’t navigate independently. Museum was gracious to open for me an evening they normally would not be open. This is a key thing I hope they impart, that they REALLY try to accommodate visitors seeking them out. They don’t yet enjoy enough traffic to drive a normal schedule, so you need to contact them personally. Museum association has done most of the hard, expensive work. Baking Italian, English and hopefully German text throughout is the easy part (given that the guidebook is written). This will permit museum to stand on its own without 100% reliance on human guides. Hopefully museum will secure online presence worthy of the collection. A Facebook page is not enough to lure visitors who won't take venue seriously. A few web pages will illuminate hours, exhibit offerings, contact mechanism, and parking. Museum has a wonderful collection and a geographical imperative in Castelforte. It’s challenging for a volunteer group to pull all these threads together. What they’ve done is amazing, but it’s a tough sell for mainstream audience. Museum will shine once they refocus on multilingual conveyance of who/what/why/where/when and then buttress that recounting with their amazing artifacts. I look forward to revisiting over the coming years to see how this enthusiastic upstart grows. VISITED: 7 Nov 2021; no fee for entry; donations accepted.
