★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Il sito archeologico comprende gli scavi di diversi edifici religiosi sovrapposti nei vari periodi storici, tra cui i resti della Pieve di San Pietro a Pava, risalente al V secolo, che presenta un rarissimo impianto a doppia abside, una soluzione architettonica diffusa in territori remoti, come quelli nordafricani e iberici. La chiesa venne abbandonata nel XIV secolo al degrado, fino al completo crollo, sostituita nella funzione propria della nuova Pieve costruita più a monte. Gli scavi hanno portato alla luce i diversi livelli di costruzioni e rifacimenti, tra chiese e sepolture, corredate da interessanti e ricchi reperti, tra cui un misterioso tesoretto di monete d’oro e d’argento di epoca gota, celato in un vano segreto.
The archaeological site includes the excavations of several religious buildings superimposed in various historical periods, including the remains of the Pieve di San Pietro a Pava, dating back to the fifth century, which has a very rare double apse, an architectural solution widespread in remote areas, like the North African and Iberian ones. The church was abandoned in the fourteenth century to decay, up to the complete collapse, replaced in the proper function of the new parish built further upstream. The excavations have brought to light the different levels of constructions and renovations, including churches and burials, accompanied by interesting and rich finds, including a mysterious treasure trove of gold and silver coins from the Gothic era, hidden in a secret compartment.
