Learning italian in a family atmosphere with very dedicated teachers and classmates who become friends - Arca is definitely the best choice you can make!

Just completed 5 weeks of in-person beginner group classes. My instructors (Ludo and Corinna) provided an excellent setting for acquiring the language in a supportive manner. I liked their teaching styles -- and the way they incorporated incoming and outgoing students into the learning environment, with the course ranging from having 3-7 students in any given week. Ludo's segment focused on grammar. Corinna's on conversation. The ARCA admin team provides a warm and welcoming environment. The tuition price compares favorably to other high-quality schools in town. Teaching materials are drawn from multiple sources. So, it is incumbent on students to keep good records and take notes, should you want to do follow-up. As a retired director of nonprofit orgs, I can only begin to appreciate the financial pressure that schools are struggling with during 2020. All things considered these folks do a very fine job. I received a certificate regarding completion of 100 hours of class time. Although, it was not clear which segments of the A1 curriculum I was exposed to, nor the degree to which skills I gained resulted in actual competency along that continuum. I suggested to ARCA to start each week with explaining which curriculum segments the course will focus on for the upcoming week, and how it fits into the overall learning of Italian. My biggest takeaway (in addition to the importance of having a connection to one's instructors and their teaching style), is the significant role of fellow students. Students come with different goals. These can be difficult for a school to balance and manage the impact on the learning environment (e.g. a one week drop-in learning for fun vs. residents needing to be serious about acquiring skills vs. study for business needs, etc.). Fellow students' motivation, class participation and enthusiasm for learning can prove to be the most crucial and unpredictable factor in your overall experience.
