Abitato già in epoca romana, il casale vero e proprio sorse in età bizantina come testimoniano alcuni ambienti ipogei destinati a luoghi di culto conservati nella zona. Nel XIII sec., Anfiano fece parte del Principato di Taranto. Fu poi donato come baronia alla Famiglia Cerasoli e, per matrimonio, passò ai Sambiasi. Molti altri furono i feudatari di Anfiano, tra cui i Tolomei , i Prato, i Marascallo, i Personè, i Venturi, i Gualtieri e i Salzedo. La struttura masserizia ancora oggi esistente si presenta come un agglomerato di piccoli edifici, del Sette-Ottocento, indipendenti tra loro e provvisti di fosse granarie, pozzi e stalle. Di pertinenza della Masseria è anche il frantoio ipogeo che tutt'ora si conserva nel territorio di Anfiano. Ruins of an old city ... it is a place with nothing around, abandoned, isolated. Posto sulla Traiana-calabra è stato in importante punto di riferimento per quanti andavano in medio-oriente. G	Giovanni “Juan” D'Elia on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Sul confine tra i comuni di Palmariggi e Cannole si trova questo "antico" casale, di cui è rimasto ben poco, ma che comunque fa comprendere la complessa civiltà contadina del Salento. Anfiano è un luogo isolato (da qui il nome, dal greco) e ospita un grande e antico frantoio ipogeo, probabilmente di origine bizantina. Difatti è in quell'epoca che dagli ampi boschi (di cui oggi rimane qualche traccia) si trasse la terra per la coltivazione dell'olivo. Con l'arrivo dei turchi il sito cadde in disuso ed i tentativi di ripopolarlo (il casale nuovo, in foto, fu costruito intorno al 1700) non sortirono effetto. Fu poi oltremodo devastato dai "cercatori d'oro", convinti che lì si nascondessero tesori. Merita sicuramente una visita, percorrendo a piedi la via che porta alla masseria torcito (altra perla...in disuso). Vi rapirà il cuore.. purtroppo in totale stato di abbandono. Proseguendo,ad 1,5 km di distanza circa,troverete il frantoio ipogeo. Tenuto in ottimo stato.Non lasciatevi ingannare dal cancello: è aperto e si può visitare. Rimarrete ammaliati nel vedere come la storia di quel luogo sia a coda così viva..
