★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The trick to finding a good place to eat in Italy, as I've learnt from my Italian wife, is simply to go about a block further than the obvious tourist traps in the main piazza (in this case, the Cathedral in the centre of Frascati). Go down a side street, take a left into via Piave and you'll find this excellent authentic Roman Castelli trattoria. No pretentions, just solid good quality food and the sort of friendly service normally reserved for the locals.
I was in Frascati for the Giro d'Italia, but no rip-offs to celebrate all the foreigners in town. I had a Melanzane parmigiana that was freshly made and delicious; then a plate of pasta, a home-made Tiramisu and coffee. All terrific.
Only downer was my Aussie man Caleb Ewan didn't quite win the stage, almost but not quite closing the gap to Carapaz in the sprint. But lunch was a compensation.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ We happened upon this spot and had our best meal in Italy. Fantastic appetizer platter (arancino, fried fiori de zucca, fried basil leaves...a revelation!) Followed by the pork leg, a mushroom fettuccine and a sausage and mushroom pizza. Delicious wine, and wonderful, helpful service!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The food was amazing. My wife and I had an amazing time here. The owner was awesome. He is very nice and welcoming! If you come to Italy do yourself a favor and stop in. Also, get the 4 cheese pizza with hot salami no tomato sauce with some house wine to top it off. You'll end up being here for hours. Finally, The owners uncle was the main chef for president Franklin D. Roosevelt. I'm sure he some some influence on the chefs here.

The owners didn't speak any English so we had to point and go with the flow but the food was delicious and it felt like a really traditional experience.
Tiramisu was extremely nice and reccomend it
