Voluta dai Duchi Serra di Cassano, nel 1776, per scandire le ore con i rintocchi delle sue campane alla popolazione, è diventata, nel tempo il simbolo della città.
Ha una posizione strategica, che domina la piazza centrale e la cattedrale, come una sentinella.
