Reggio Emilia, così come altre città romane, è costruita a cavallo dell’antica via Emilia, che ancora oggi ne costituisce il Decumano (asse est-ovest). Nel punto esatto in cui essa incrocia il Cardo – l’asse che invece percorre il centro da nord a sud – puoi vedere una targa commemorativa del Gromae locus.
È esattamente il punto che indica il centro nevralgico da cui ha avuto inizio la costruzione della città, tra il 187 e il 185 a.C. La groma era infatti l’asta di legno che i romani conficcavano nel terreno per cominciare a tracciare le linee dei nuovi insediamenti
