★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Per raggiungere il Castelliere bisogna partire dall'abitato e raggiungere la sella tra il monte Roba ed il monte Barda, dove si trova l'acquedotto del paese. Da lì si seguono le indicazioni per il monte Barda verso destra e, dopo un centinaio di metri, si raggiunge una parete di rocce che è parte delle antiche mura di cinta. Questo sito, che risale al paleolitico, fu realizzato sul Barda per i vantaggi che dava la posizione sia a fíni di difesa che per il controllo della confluenza delle valli del Natisone e dell'Alberone.
I Romani utilizzarono il sito dopo la costruzione di Forum Julii per gli stessi motivi difensivi e strategici.
Per poter vedere meglio l'organizzazione del castelliere é consigliabile visitarlo d'inverno, quando la mancanza di fogliame rende il sito più facile da esplorare.
To reach the Castelliere you need to start from the town and reach the saddle between Mount Roba and Mount Barda, where the town's aqueduct is located. From there follow the signs for Mount Barda to the right and, after a hundred meters, you reach a wall of rocks that is part of the ancient city walls. This site, which dates back to the Paleolithic, was built on the Barda due to the advantages it gave to both the defense and the control of the confluence of the Natisone and Alberone valleys.
The Romans used the site after the construction of Forum Julii for the same defensive and strategic reasons.
To better see the organization of the castle it is advisable to visit it in winter, when the lack of foliage makes the site easier to explore.
