β β β β β If you are on the trail of the Staufen king Frederick the Second, you will not get past this early Norman complex. Frederick the Second carried out some kind of ethnic cleansing and brought the insurgent Muslim inhabitants of Sicily to the Lucera area. It is an impressive, large complex in which the imperial culturally decorated facade of the inner courtyard is particularly striking.
